Aquarium Oddities:
1a. Water is discolored or milky
white.
Got
milk? If your tank has ever suffered from a bacterial bloom you'd think
some evil person has poured milk into the tank.
Bacterial blooms are an imbalance of different types of
bacterium competing for space and food. Blooms are very common in new
fresh water aquariums or after a long over due water change in older unmanaged
tanks. The water can literally turn milky white to the point that you can't
see the fish.
Most blooms won't hurt the inhabitants and will clear up
on their own. Stop feeding the fish all together and perform a five
percent water changes every 3 days directly from the water column. Don't
disturb the gravel or decor and within 2 weeks it should disappear.
